In order to gain some attention for my upcoming Coastal Run, a run dedicated to sea conservation and sustainability, I decided to take a unique approach in marketing.

As an employee of Bamboo Sushi, the world’s first sustainable sushi restaurant, I thought it best to utilize their values in hopes to get them to rally behind my run. To get the word out, running to all six locations of Bamboo Sushi in Portland was going to be my pitch.

Bamboo Sushi Odyssey

Three people standing outside a storefront with large glass windows. The woman on the left is wearing sunglasses and a black tank top, looking at her phone. The woman in the middle has glasses and long hair, smiling. The man on the right is wearing sunglasses, a gray T-shirt, and blue shorts, holding a plastic bag. Reflections of trees and the street can be seen in the window behind them.
Street view showing a sushi restaurant sign that says "Bamboo Sushi" with bamboo graphic, sidewalk with social distancing markers, and parked cars on a sunny day in an urban area.

While on the run, I handed out stickers to every location of Bamboo, to people on the street who had curiosity in their eyes, and even to employees at Powell’s as I ran through. With each sticker came a spiel of the Coastal Run. A self-promoting troubadour, handing out stickers like tickets to a show. A performer in motion leaving a trail of intrigue.

Meet the Team

Accumulating up to 25 miles, I finished at Lake Oswego with a warm welcome from my coworkers.
